What I Am Reading

Stuff Christians Like

by Jonathan Acuff

Saw this guy speak at a conference. He is very good and very thought provoking on how we as Christians are seen by the world and how if we can’t laugh at ourselves and some of our “Christian” views then we are in for a tough time.  He has a great bit on prayer shot blocking that is down right one of the funniest bits I have heard in a long time.  Great book and great blog http://stuffchristianslike.net it is on my daily reading.

What Did You Expect?

by Dr. Paul Tripp

I have seen Dr. Tripp speak many time in the past couple of years due to a conference that has been held at Christ Chapel Bible Church my church and my work. He is very good at getting his point across and you not having to be a a doctor level brain…which is good for a knucklehead like myself. This book has been recommended to me by my friend and my wife and I intend to listen to it on an upcoming vacation. I will let you know how it goes.

When People Are Big And God Is Small

by Edward T. Welch

This book is a mind blower.  The is really a first for me on that I am reading this book slowly and with a purpose. Most of the time I plow through them so I can say yea I read it.  I have spent most of my life as a selfish person and through this book I am realizing that it is because the relationship I thought I had with God has been a bit skewed to say the leaset.  Welch hit me over the head in the first few pages when he talked about himself being a love tank that is running around trying to get filled and that need for filling has caused a fear of man.  This fear of man has cause me to look to others for my confirmation that I am a good person all the while I have been forgetting that God loves me for who I am no matter what.  So I am working on this realization and becoming a man who fears God more than man.  Have finished this book.  My mind is still blown and it will be a permanent part of this blog. If you want to really understand why you always do those things to get noticed and feeling in the end empty inside….then read this book!
